Tom is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has served on the Board of Directors since the inception of the ESOP in January 2008. He also currently serves as the Lead Independent Director for the Board.
He recently retired from the practice of public accounting after a career that spanned 49 years. Immediately prior to his retirement in May 2023, Tom served as the Managing Partner for Sponsel CPA Group an Indianapolis based CPA firm that he started in 2009 and currently employs 40+ team members. His professional experience includes providing advisory services on entrepreneurial startups, mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, organizational structure, and strategic planning. He also holds the ABV designation “Accredited in Business Valuation” and has testified extensively in court proceedings on matters related to business valuations and economic damages.He proved his own entrepreneurial skills in starting his own CPA firm in 2009.
His professional contributions and recognitions include the Indiana CPA Society’s( INCPAS) President’s Award for his distinguished service to the CPA profession and was also the recipient of the INCPAS Outstanding CPA in Public Practice award. He has been involved in a number of community organizations in volunteer leadership roles.
